Successful America’s Cup World Series event for HTP trained volunteers
What a weekend! Great weather, great sailing, a win for Land Rover BAR and a Royal visit too.
Trained by HTP, over 350 volunteer Wavemakers, wearing their distinctive blue t-shirts and caps, were on hand across the city of Portsmouth with local knowledge and event information to enhance the experience of tens of thousands of visitors.
Leslie Greenhalgh, Event Director at Team Origin said, “The Wavemakers are simply an amazing group of people who all played a significant part in the huge success of the 2016 Luois Vuitton America’s Cup World Series Portsmouth. The enthusiasm, the smiles and the care and attention to detail they all faultlessly gave were commented on time and time again.”
The event was won by the British team Land Rover BAR, led by Sir Ben Ainslie who narrowly beat the American Team Oracle. The event finished with an awards presentation which saw Team Origin’s Chairman Sir Keith Mills introduced the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to the stage to present the trophies.
Should Great Britain ‘Bring the cup home’ next year by winning in Bermuda, then the next time the America’s Cup is held it will hopefully be in Portsmouth, bringing huge levels of investment to the region.
