Apprenticeship Triumphs Recognised in Newport Ceremony

On a crisp November day, HTP Apprenticeship College proudly celebrated the remarkable achievements of our learners at a memorable 2024 Graduation ceremony. Held at the stunning Newport Minster on the 28th, this historic venue—freshly refurbished—provided a fitting backdrop for a day filled with pride and promise as we recognised the accomplishments of 56 Higher Apprentices.

Family, friends, employers, and staff joined together in celebration, applauding the dedication and resilience that each graduate demonstrated on their journey. Awards were presented by HTP’s Founder and Chief Executive, Rachael Randall, whose passion for learning and growth set the tone for this uplifting event.

The ceremony was elevated further by the inspiring words of Mrs Susie Sheldon JP, HM Lord-Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight. Her keynote speech was both a celebration of achievement and a call to embrace the future:

“Many congratulations to you all today; we celebrate your success together, but it doesn’t stop here. This is the end of your Apprenticeship but the beginning of a new stage in your career. You are about to set off on the next phase of your life, having worked hard to get the qualification. I hope you will continue to grab all opportunities that come your way. Apprenticeships are a partnership too—between our learners, HTP, and our employers.”

Apprentices representing a broad spectrum of industries and organisations, both on the Isle of Wight and across the Solent, were in attendance. From small enterprises to national organisations, businesses such as Age UK Isle of Wight, Aspire Ryde, Isle of Wight NHS Trust, Portsmouth City Council, and Vestas Blades UK demonstrated their commitment to fostering growth through Apprenticeships.

The event took place just steps away from HTP’s headquarters at The Old Grammar School Campus in Newport, a significant location as the organisation approaches its 25th anniversary in 2025. Reflecting on HTP’s journey and ethos, Rachael Randall shared heartfelt words about the power of education and collaboration:

“HTP is proud to be an independent training provider offering a wide range of standards and working in partnership with so many employers to train and upskill their staff. Today really showcases the value of Apprenticeships, where team members learn in the workplace, on the job, and at any age.

“Since we first opened our doors in 2000, I have passionately believed in the potential of each individual. With a strong support network around us, we can achieve anything we set our minds to. Today, as we celebrate the hard work, determination, and focus of our learners, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the parents, carers, families, friends, and employers who have supported them. Let us all wish our graduates every success for the future—wherever it may take them.”

As the formalities concluded, celebrations spilled into the sunshine outside, where graduates gathered in St Thomas’ Square for the tradition of the graduates’ hat toss. This moment of unity and joy captured the spirit of the day: one of triumph, community, and bright futures ahead.
