Partnership brings success for public sector
Apprenticeships were adopted at the Trust as a cost effective way of recruiting and developing young motivated staff who would progress on to substantive posts reducing the risk of employing unsuitable candidates. The Apprentices who have completed their Apprenticeship at QA, 100% have gone on to secure full-time employment and progressed on to their Advanced Apprenticeship.
“The programme has brought in some excellent young people who have a great deal to contribute to the organisation now and in the future. This has been achieved in a very cost effective way. Mentoring and support time have been necessary to ensure the Apprentice programme is right for each individual. However, the Apprenticeship programme means this has all been achieved in a cost effective way. The great thing about 16-18 year olds is that they arrive with no set behaviours or expectations in regard to the workplace so we can mould them, train them and immerse them in the culture of the NHS. Changes in attitudes towards the idea of apprentices, has been a surprise. Team members who were initially dubious about the value apprentices bring have had their views changed. These same people now lobby hard to get their apprentices replaced once the youngsters have completed their apprenticeships and moved on into full time roles.”
