Build skills for care and healthcare support roles

Health & Social Care is a people-focused sector where the right values matter as much as previous experience.

This Skills Bootcamp is designed to help you understand the standards, behaviours and responsibilities expected in care settings, while giving you supported work experience and practical preparation for job applications and interviews.

The programme focuses on adult social care knowledge and care standards, with the aim of helping learners work towards units from – or in some cases complete – a Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate.

What does it involve?

The programme begins with a one-week intensive start, followed by weekly classroom-based learning and work experience.

You can expect:

• face-to-face group sessions
• one-to-one learner reviews
• personal development planning
• practical work experience from week 2
• CV, application and interview support
• transition support to help you plan your next step

Most delivery will be face to face, with some online learning or alternative delivery methods used where appropriate.

What will I learn?

During the programme you’ll explore the knowledge, behaviours and responsibilities needed in Health & Social Care, including:

• the Health & Social Care sector and how different roles work
• care values, standards and agreed ways of working
• duty of care and duty of candour
• equality, diversity, inclusion and human rights
• person-centred care and the 6 Cs of care
• communication with people who have different needs and preferences
• privacy, dignity, confidentiality and informed choice
• food safety, nutrition and hydration
• mental health and dementia
• safeguarding adults and children
• health and safety, PPE and hygiene procedures
• data protection, online safety and GDPR
• infection prevention and control
• learning disabilities and autism
• job searches, CVs, applications and interviews

Work experience

Learn in the classroom. Build confidence in real settings.

Work experience is expected to begin in week 2 of the programme. Learners will complete at least one day per week of industry-specific work experience, with the possibility of more depending on individual circumstances and placement availability.

This helps you:

• understand what care work is really like
• develop confidence around service users, staff and workplace routines
• connect classroom learning with practical situations
• build evidence of your skills and commitment
• prepare for interviews and future opportunities

How much time will it take?

The expected structure includes:

• an intensive first week of training
• weekly classroom sessions from week 3
• three one-to-one coaching and progress review sessions
• work experience from week 2
• job search, application and interview preparation near the end of the programme

What comes next?

Support towards work in Health & Social Care

Towards the end of the programme, you’ll receive support with job searches, applications, CVs and mock interviews.

Skills Bootcamps are designed to support learners towards employment, including a job interview with an employer after successful completion.

You’ll also receive transition support to help you plan your next step after the Bootcamp.
