Advice for employers

How do apprenticeships actually work?

Here’s our step-by-step guide to everything you need to know

We know that getting started with an Apprenticeship programme can seem like a big task – but with over 20 years’ experience under our belts, with us you’re in safe hands.

Questions?

We‘re here to help – just get in touch.

1

Selection or Recruitment

First things first – having an Apprentice doesn’t necessarily mean hiring someone new. Apprenticeships are a great way to upskill your existing team, too – practically anyone can be an Apprentice.

If you need to recruit someone, we’ll help with that, too.

2

Meet Your Apprenticeship Coach

We’ll match you with a dedicated Apprenticeship Coach, who will be your point of contact on a day-to-day basis. All of our Apprenticeship Coaches have extensive industry experience, educational expertise, DBS checks – and, of course, plenty of friendly helpful advice.

3

On programme

Once you’re all signed up and raring to go, we’ll meet with you and your Apprentice to introduce the Apprenticeship in more detail, and to explain the ‘Commitment Statement’ which outlines how the Apprenticeship will be delivered.

An Apprenticeship combines ‘real’ work in a real job, with a range of training activities, such as assignments, reflective statements and shadowing, as well as off-the-job training, which can be delivered either at your workplace or at one of our training centres.

Help and advice is never far away, and we’ll arrange to meet with you and your Apprentice regularly to make sure everything’s going to plan, and offer any help required.

4

Gateway

As the apprentice nears completion of their time on their Apprenticeship, they enter into the ‘gateway’ phase. This is the transition between formal training and the assessment process known as ‘End Point Assessment’.

5

End-Point Assessment

There are lots of different ways that assessment takes place. Your Training Consultant will explain the approach used for your Apprentice.

6

Certification

Once your apprentice successfully completes their Apprenticeship and End Point Assessment, we’ll invite you along to our Graduation Ceremony, where we bring together all our graduates to celebrate their achievements, complete with mortar boards and gowns!

7

Progression

It doesn’t stop there – your Apprenticeship Coach will work with you to understand your future development opportunities and introduce you and your apprentice to further Apprenticeship programmes that may be of interest.

Still have a question about what to expect? No problem! Give us a call or drop us a line, we’d be happy to help.
