Your questions answered:

What activities could I do?

Our Active programmes are made up of modules taken from a range of Sport, Leisure and Outdoor pursuit courses, such as:  Sport & Fitness Instructing, Outdoor Pursuits, Creative Conservation, Personal Development and General Cookery. Your Training Consultant will work with you to create a package of modules that’s just right for you.

How long exactly are the courses?

Our course lengths vary, but they all run in term-time only, for one academic year – starting in early September and finishing between June and mid-July.

Do I need any qualifications to apply?

No. You don’t need any previous experience or qualifications to learn with us – just a desire to try new things and get your career started.

Book a virtual chat with a course leader

You can contact our careers advisors at any time if you’ve got questions about our Courses, Apprenticeships or Traineeships – but now on Tuesdays and Thursdays you can also speak – via phone or video chat – directly with our course leaders at Riverbank Campus and get more in-depth information about specific Full-time Courses and what it’s really like to train with us on‑campus. Booking is simple, and Nicki & Lisa would love to meet you!

Who can do these Courses?

All of our Full-time Courses are available to you if you are:

  • Aged 16-18 (or under 25 if you hold an Education, Health & Care Plan)

Will I have to pay to do a course?

No – the government will pay the cost of your course if you’re 16–18, or under 25 if you hold an Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP).

You may also receive a bursary to support your learning. This will be discussed with you on application and could entitle you to up to £1,200 if your course lasts at least 30 weeks in one year. Depending on where you live you may also be eligible for help with your travel costs.

You must attend regularly to receive bursaries and other payments.

What could this course lead to?

Progression from our full-time courses is something that we discuss from day one. There is a structured progression route for each of the courses we offer, including higher level qualifications, Apprenticeships or other employment, including self-employment.

When and how can I apply?

Our courses start in September but you can apply right now or contact us to arrange a convenient time to visit the campus, see the facilities and meet our staff.

Before starting your course you will be asked to come in to meet your Training Consultant and complete your Programme Induction. This will include a tour of the campus areas where your training will take place. You will also receive further information about the course, such as any equipment or clothing you may need to provide and will be given an outline of your course timetable.

If you’re ready to apply for a Full-time Course with us, it’s easy:

  1. Contact us by phone or via our Contact Form,
  2. We’ll talk to you about your options and, if necessary, help you to complete the Application Form,
  3. We’ll help you choose which course is right for you.
