Full-time Courses
Your Full-time Course is designed to build your confidence while you gain qualifications and the valuable work experience you need to progress on to an Apprenticeship, other employment or further education.
It’s not like school or other colleges. We know that sixth form or traditional college aren’t for everyone – that’s why we’ve created a training environment that feels different. With smaller group sizes – so you get the support you need – industry experienced tutors who really know their stuff, and the opportunity to put all your learning into practice with regular work experience placements.
Length of the Courses. Our Full-time Courses are for one or two academic years, and run from September each year. They finish between June and mid-July.
When your Course ends. Progression from our Full-time Courses is something that we discuss from day one. There is a structured progression route for each of the courses we offer, including higher-level qualifications, Pre-Apprenticeships, Apprenticeships or other employment, including self-employment.
Your Work Experience Placement
During your programme you will attend work experience arranged by your Tutor/Trainer with one of our reputable employers, helping you gain real workplace

Full-time Course and Pre-Apprenticeship processes and events
Duration, College Hours and Attendance
Duration
Your Course will last one or two academic years, (September to June or July) , depending on your specific programme. Your Tutor/Trainer will confirm the programme dates with you during the enrolling stage.
During your time with us we expect you to dress appropriately for college, work experience and the weather. We will also expect you to wear your lanyard at all times so everyone can be identified and kept safe.
College Hours
The college days starts at 9.00am and will usually finish by 4.00pm, Monday to Friday. During the day there are scheduled comfort breaks, morning break and lunchtime.
We also operate a breakfast club which is available to all our students from 8.15am – 8.45am Monday to Friday. We offer toast, cereals, hot and cold drinks. Please discuss any dietary requirements with us in advance.
Attendance
You will be required to attend training at the times agreed on your course timetable, which may include training sessions at another HTP Campus, work tasters, work experience or a combination of all the above at a time and place designated by HTP Apprenticeship College.
We strive for 100% attendance; any medical appointments should be made outside of college hours. Your attendance will be monitored throughout your time with HTP. If we have any concerns we will discuss this with you.
Failure to attend will result in the loss of Bursary and Discretionary Bursary payments, if applicable, and could lead to warnings and /or dismissal from the programme.

Inductions
College Induction
When you start, HTP Apprenticeship College will provide you with all the necessary information about your programme. You will be expected to attend an induction week where we will finalise the programme requirements and timetabling with you. The specific programme details will be set out through an individual training plan agreed by us with you. The plan will detail what needs to be achieved and how within agreed timeframes.
Workplace Induction
When you attend work placement, your placement mentor will introduce you to the workplace, outlining your job role, work hours, dress code, and Health and Safety procedures – including any Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which may be required.
Your work placement
Your Tutor / Trainer will work with you to find and agree a work placement to attend to gain valuable work experience. Gaining experience through a work placement with an employer is an important part of your programme. This opportunity provides you with the chance of apply the knowledge and skills you learn on-campus to a real work situation and will help you achieve the units of your qualification and progress within your chosen career.
Progress Reviews
As part of your programme, it’s important to keep track of your progress and make sure you’re getting the most out of your training. Regular meetings will be arranged with your Tutor/Trainer and your work placement mentor to review how you’re doing.
What HTP Apprenticeship College will do:
- Set up a schedule of regular progress meetings with you.
- Ensure you, and where required your workplace mentor, are included in every meeting.
- Assess and document your progress.
- Identify any extra training or support you might need and update your Training Plan.
- Set and record goals and tasks for you to complete before the next meeting.
- Provide you with a record of each meeting.
- Plan and schedule your next progress review.
Your responsibilities as an apprentice are to:
- Engage in discussions about your progress.
- Share any concerns you have about your programme with HTP.
- Attend all scheduled progress meetings.
- Work to complete agreed actions.
- Sign the review documents.
- If needed, agree to and confirm any changes to your Training Plan.
MATHS & ENGLISH
As part of your programme, there is a requirement to complete maths and English if you do not hold GCSE Grade 4 or Functional Skills Level 2. These skills are essential if you do not already have the minimum required certification in these subjects.
Functional Skills are designed to provide fundamental literacy and numeracy skills, equipping you with the abilities necessary for everyday life. They not only improve your employment prospects but also pave the way for higher-level programmes and other learning opportunities.
English Functional Skills
This qualification aims to:
- Enhance your understanding and response to verbal communication in various contexts.
- Expand your vocabulary and usage of everyday words.
- Improve your reading accuracy.
- Develop your ability to write clearly, with strong spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
To complete your English Functional Skills, you’ll need to pass three assessments:
- Reading
- Writing
- Speaking and Listening
Maths Functional Skills
This qualification is designed to:
- Strengthen your mathematical problem-solving skills in familiar scenarios.
- Lay a strong foundation for employment and further educational opportunities.
The single assessment includes:
- Non-calculator and calculator sections.
Topics covering:
- Use of whole numbers and the number system.
- Handling information and data.
- Common measures, shapes, and spaces.
GCSEs
GCSEs run from September to June each academic year and is part of your vocational programme.
GCSE Maths content includes:
- Number
- Algebra
- Ratio, proportion and rates of change
- Geometry and measures
- Probability
- Statistics
GCSE English content includes:
- Creative reading
- Creative writing
- Fictional texts
- Descriptive/narrative writing
- Extended writing
- Non-fiction texts
- Literary non-fiction texts
- Use of standard English.
Your attendance for Maths and English is as important as attending your main qualification sessions.
