Blackwater Mill is looking for an enthusiastic individual to train in the role of Carer and join their friendly team. This role will offer you the opportunity to work as part of a team with colleagues in meeting the personal care needs of the clients within the home, respecting their dignity and promoting independence at the same time, assist in the care of the clients physical environment and in the general day to day activities of the home and to take delegated responsibility of the clients under your care to the appropriate level determined.

Blackwater Mill is set in stunning landscaped gardens next to a vast millpond fed by the river Medina, providing a serene and idyllic environment in which to retire.

The residents enjoy the interesting wildlife including ducks, swans, fish, red squirrels and chickens. The building dates back to 1790, when it was a working grain mill, now providing charm and character to the home.


What’s Involved / Duties:

The following are the core responsibilities of this job role. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

  • To assist clients who need help with any aspects of personal care as appropriate;
  • To assist clients who may need help with mobility and other physical problems using appropriate aids and personal equipment;
  • To promote the independence of clients to their maximum capabilities;
  • To promote health, personal, cultural, religious and social needs of clients;
  • To treat all clients with respect, sensitivity and to uphold their right to privacy and confidentiality and thus allowing them to exercise choice and control over their lives;
  • To mend / sew clothing of individual clients as necessary;
  • To assist in serving meals and assist clients who require so during mealtime;
  • To assist with clearing the dining room and ensure that the dining room is clean and presentable after each meal;
  • To answer the telephone in a professional manner and take / record messages correctly;
  • To be able to take any enquiries and deal with them in an efficient and professional manner;
  • To welcome visitors in a friendly and efficient manner making sure each visitor has signed in and out accordingly;
  • To ensure you are aware of all procedures and policies within the home;
  • To implement the role of key worker efficiently;
  • To ensure all records are kept up to date daily eg daily reports, meal charts, fluid charts etc….
  • To be aware of Fire procedures and comply with Health and Safety guidelines at all times;
  • To adhere to a code of professional conduct and to maintain confidentiality at all times;
  • To attend mandatory training.

Training Provided:
  • The successful candidate will be working towards the Level 2 Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship.
  • Off the job training will be provided, where you will have the time to complete your portfolio work, attend off job training seminars and have allocated time for mentoring and being shadowed.


Expected Apprenticeship Duration:
  • 13 months.


Hourly Wage:
  • National Minimum Wage


Working Week:
  • 30 hours per week;
  • Shift patterns to be confirmed.
