“Seeing learners achieve their goals gives me so much pride.”
How did you get involved with Childcare?
My journey in Childcare started 9 years ago, after I had my daughter, Darcie. I decided to start a new career and follow my passion for Childcare. I started working in a nursery and quickly progressed in my role, and was fortunate to be offered the opportunity to train and become a Level 3 Early Years Educator. This gave me the opportunity to learn more about child development, safeguarding, health and safety, and paediatric first aid.
And what brought you to HTP Apprenticeship College?
Last year, I decided to move away from Kent and make a new start on the Island, together with my family. It’s the perfect place to bring up my daughter and it gives us a much better quality of life.
I went to school at a very large secondary school – and to be honest, I found it really overwhelming at first. After a while, I made friends, and I enjoyed learning. But I found it challenging at times, finding it difficult to learn in a large group, and the distractions around me. That’s one of the things I love about HTP. We’ve created an environment that is nurturing and supportive, and the small group sizes mean that everyone has the opportunity to succeed.
Why do students get on so well on the Course?
The course I teach really builds the foundation for a career in Childcare. It’s a fun, creative and exciting course with a mix of classroom-based knowledge and understanding, and observations within a work placement.
A final word?
My daughter may have been the one who inspired me to chase my dreams and achieve my goals, but I’ve been constantly inspired by all the children and young people I’ve worked with since. Seeing them flourish into the best version of themselves is just amazing. It doesn’t get any better than that…
