What would I do on the course?
By studying Functional Skills, you will be able to demonstrate your confidence in using mathematics and demonstrate a sound grasp of mathematical knowledge and skills and apply this to solve straightforward mathematical problems.
Functional Skills in Maths cover three main areas:
- Using numbers and the number system
- Using common measures, shape and space
- Handling data and information
Exams
Entry Level Exams
There is one exam set which is paper-based, set by City & Guilds and marked internally by HTP.
- Section 1 (non-calculator) worth 25% of the total marks, duration 25 minutes
- Section 2 (calculator) worth 75% of the total marks, duration 65 minutes
Level 1 and Level 2 Exams
There is one exam set and marked externally by City & Guilds
- Section 1 (non-calculator) worth 25% of the total marks, duration 25 minutes
- Section 2 (calculator) worth 75% of the total marks, duration 1 hour 20 minutes
Where does the training take place?
For apprentices, Functional Skills are delivered one-to-one in the workplace with additional taught support sessions available at one of HTP’s campuses.
For Study Programme learners, Functional Skills are classroom-based as part of the timetable.
How do I get started?
Functional Skills are only currently available if you are currently undertaking an Apprenticeship, Full-time Study programme or Traineeship.
