Overview

Adult Care Workers may work in residential or nursing homes, domiciliary care, day centres, a person’s own home or some clinical healthcare settings. Personal assistants do the same job as an Adult Care Worker and work directly for one individual usually within their own home. Working with people, feeling passionate about supporting and enabling them to live a more independent and fulfilling life is a rewarding and worthwhile job that provides excellent career opportunities. This apprenticeship will provide you with the opportunity, skills and knowledge you need to start your exciting new career.
What will I learn?

During your Apprenticeship you will learn how to support individuals, keep them safe and promote their health and wellbeing. You will gain the knowledge and skills you need to undertake a wide range of tasks including supporting with social activities, monitoring health, assisting with eating, mobility and personal care. You will also learn how to contribute towards the development of care plans which meet the physical, social and emotional needs of individuals. Throughout your apprenticeship you will work together with other people ensuring the dignity of those you support is at the centre of all you do.

What does the Diploma cover?

This Diploma is made up of mandatory and optional units. The mandatory units listed below cover core subjects you will be studying:

Mandatory units:  ■ communication ■ personal development ■ values and behaviours ■ health and wellbeing ■ responsibilities ■ safeguarding.

You will also choose from a range of optional units which allow you to tailor the qualification to your needs, interests and workplace setting:

Optional units are available to support areas of specialism, including: ■ learning disability services ■ end of life care ■ dementia care ■ residential care ■ domiciliary care ■ healthcare support

How will I be assessed?

During your Apprenticeship you will be continuously assessed by your Training Consultant who will provide the feedback, training and support you need to successfully complete the Care Certificate, Diploma and Apprenticeship standard. Once you finish formal training you will to demonstrate what you have learnt by taking a multiple choice test and completing a professional discussion relating to the knowledge and skills you have developed.
