This Apprenticeship will give you the knowledge and skills you need to interact with children, parents, colleagues and other professionals. You will learn how to support child-initiated and adult-led activities based around the needs and interests of each child, and support their learning through play opportunities and educational programmes.
What will I learn during the programme?

During your Apprenticeship you will gain an understanding of how children learn and the expected pattern of babies and children’s development from birth to 5 years. Areas of development include speech, language and communication, physical emotional, social, brain development and literacy and numeracy. You will also develop your knowledge of safeguarding and confidentiality guidance and learn the skills you need to identify risk, hazards, recognise when a child is in danger and know which procedures to put into place to protect them. You will also develop the ability to work with colleagues to identify and plan indoor and outdoor play opportunities and support children’s development through a range of creative social development and learning.

How will I be assessed?

During your Apprenticeship you will work closely with your HTP Apprenticeship College Training Consultant who will provide continuous assessment and feedback to ensure you develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours you need to successfully complete your apprenticeship. On completion of training you will demonstrate what you have learnt through a professional discussion based on the work you will have completed during your Apprenticeship and a multiple choice knowledge test.
