Are you a practical person but feel you may not be ready for a level 2 course yet? Do you enjoy being outdoors and cooking? This course can kick-start your future, expand your horizons and create lifelong skills and abilities. Being able to swim or cycle is desired, but not essential - you just need a willingness to give it a go.

Overview

This Level 1 programme is designed to give you an introduction in outdoor activities, food, nutrition & fun cooking, improve your health & wellbeing whilst developing confidence to help you decide on your next career choices that are right for you. During the course you will complete the NOCN L1 Certificate in Skills for Employment, Training & Personal development.
What would I do on this course?

You will spend lots of time outside all year round, at our Parkhurst Forest site in Newport, participating in activities such as kayaking, mountain biking, orienteering. At Riverbank Campus you will be cooking up some fun, nutritious sweet and savoury food in our fully equipped kitchen, improving health & wellbeing in our gym or fun team sport challenges.

Modules you will complete include:

  • Taking part in exercise and fitness
  • Working as a team
  • Understanding food, nutrition and healthy eating
  • Food preparation & cooking
  • Outdoor cooking and bushcraft
  • How the body works
Do I have to take exams?

No. The programme is mainly practical and although there are some written and theory elements, all activities are tutor-assessed and no exams are required.
