Overview

This Apprenticeship is only available for employees at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust. The Pharmacy Services Assistant Apprenticeship is delivered in partnership with Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust and provides the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to become competent in supporting individuals in the Pharmacy sector, as part of the wider healthcare team. Apprentices are employed as Pharmacy Assistants and are an essential part of the pharmacy team and work under the supervision of a registered Pharmacist in order to provide medicines for patients in a safe and correct manner. Apprentices gain the new skills and learning they need to carry out these job roles as well as preparing them for future employment and career progression within the health sector.
What will I learn?

During your Apprenticeship you will be involved in supporting the supply, preparation and assembly of medicines and products; issuing them to patients and other healthcare professionals and assisting in providing advice to patients to help them make effective use of their medicines. You will be responsible for ordering and receiving medicines, as well as their storage, disposal and return. You will understand and work to standard operating procedures, a set of step-by-step instructions compiled by their organisation to help staff carry out routine operations.

How will I be assessed?

Throughout your Apprenticeship your Training Consultant will provide continuous assessment, feedback and support to ensure you successfully complete all elements of your apprenticeship standard. On completion of training you will demonstrate the new skills and knowledge you have gained through a multiple choice test and professional discussion.
