Overview

The main purpose of a retailer is to assist customers when they purchase products and services, which requires a good understanding of the stock being sold, the variety of ways customers can shop and the ability to process payments, for example, using a till. Retailers enjoy direct contact with a wide range of people and are motivated by completing a sale and knowing a customer is happy with their purchase. They can work in a variety of shops and other retail establishments: small boutiques, large high street chains, supermarkets and well-known department stores are just some examples. More specialist retailers include funeral services, garden centres, delicatessens and people who work in remote environments for example in telephone, on-line and mail order retail.
What will I learn during the programme?

During your Apprenticeship you will gain the knowledge and skills you need to positively interact with customers, increase sales and how to process payments. You will research methods for communicating with people face to face and remotely and gain an understanding of purchasing habits, customer loyalty and how to achieve repeat business. You will also study marketing and how to promote an organisations unique selling point, develop straplines and promotions and develop advertising campaigns.

How will I be assessed?

During your Apprenticeship you will work closely with your Training Consultant who will provide continuous assessment and feedback to ensure you develop the knowledge and skills you need to successfully complete your apprenticeship. Once you have completed your training you will demonstrate what you have learnt through a multiple choice test, practical observation and professional discussion.
