It’s a great way into a full Apprenticeship and into a real career.

What can I do a Traineeship in?

We currently offers Traineeships in these career areas:

  • Professional Cookery,
  • Business Administration,
  • Hospitality,
  • Health + Social Care,
  • Customer Service,
  • Childcare.

What is a Traineeship?

A Traineeship is a short-term training programme aimed at getting you ready for work. The main benefit of a Traineeship is to provide you with a real work placement where you can experience what it’s like to work in a particular job.

HTP Apprenticeship College’s Traineeship programme is designed to help young people develop the skills needed to impress potential employers, and to secure and succeed in an Apprenticeship or other employment. Traineeships help you build your CV and your confidence so you’re ready to find the Apprenticeship you want.

A Traineeship is ideal if you’re looking to progress from classroom-based study into the world of work for the first time. We work with hundreds of local employers and will find the right opportunity for you. We’ll be there to help and advise you throughout your placement.

What’s involved?

Employability Skills:

You will receive work preparation training, including CV writing, interview preparation, job searching and help with interpersonal skills. A Traineeship is your tailor-made package of support, offering you skills and experience to compete in the job market.

Work Experience:

This is probably the most important part of the Traineeship and therefore you will work with an employer in a real workplace setting. This could mean for a small local business or a large organisation. Either way, there will be a ‘lead employer’ for your work placement time. By trying out your chosen area of work you’ll be better prepared, more experienced and able to make a difference to future employers from day one. The idea is that you can confidently take you first steps into work or an Apprenticeship. And at the end of your Traineeship you are guaranteed an interview with your work placement host.

Maths and English:

In most cases, and depending on your previous qualifications, you will study English and Maths. By gaining good grades in English and Maths your future earnings could be up to 11% higher. Everyone aged 18 or below will study English and Maths unless you have already achieved grades 4 – 9 (C – A*) at GCSE.

The aim of the Traineeship is to help you develop the necessary skills and knowledge to progress on to an Apprenticeship or in to full-time employment. HTP Apprenticeship College will support you at all stages to ensure you have the best possible opportunities to start your career.

Who can do a Traineeship?

You must:

  • be aged 16-24* and qualified below Level 3,
  • have been a resident in the UK / EEA for the last three years.

Any learner with a Statement of Educational Needs or an S139a can be funded by the government on a Traineeship up to the age of 24.

How long does a Traineeship last?

A Traineeship is for a maximum of six months. The work experience part will be at least six weeks but may last up to 5 months.

Will I be paid?

Employers are not required to pay you for taking part in a Traineeship but may support you with expenses such as transport and meals. The work placement is a real opportunity to gain meaningful work experience. Depending on your individual circumstances you may be able to receive financial support from your training provider through the 16-19 Bursary Fund or the 19+ Discretionary Learner Support Fund. All training costs are funded by the Government.
