Your questions answered

 What is a Traineeship?

A Traineeship is an education and training programme with work experience for young people who want to find an Apprenticeship or other type of job, but who first need to gain the skills, experience and mindset that employers are looking for.
It is intended that our Traineeships will lead directly to full-time employment on an Apprenticeship.

 Can I do a Traineeship?

You can apply for a Traineeship if you are 16-18* years old and either want to get into the working world, or want to re-skill or up-skill into a new career. Even if you have already have some qualifications (up to Level 3) – you can still undertake a Traineeship.

 Do I need any qualifications?

Not at all, but if you’ve already got some that’s fine. Even if you have already have qualifications up to Level 3, you can still undertake a Traineeship.

What subjects can I do a Traineeship in?

Together with our group of fantastic companies and organisations, we’re offering Traineeship programmes in:

        • Health & Social Care
        • Business Administration
        • Hospitality & Tourism
        • Professional Cookery
        • Childcare & Education
        • Horse Care & Riding
        • Customer Service

What sort of qualifications could I get?

The actual qualifications depend on the particular Traineeship you’re on, but will typically be Level 1 or 2 Awards or Certificates, along with GCSE Maths and/or English if required.

 How long is a Traineeship?

It depends on which programme you undertake and how ready for the working world you are, but they usually last between 6 weeks and 6 months. That’s why we say Traineeships are your fast way into work!

 How are Traineeships taught?

On our programmes you’ll spend some of your time training with HTP’s expert tutors at one of our campuses or online, and a minimum of 70 hours in a real company. There, you’ll get further training and hands-on work experience.

  Will I get paid?

You won’t get paid a salary while you’re completing your Traineeship, although we do encourage employers to give you a training allowance and to cover expenses such as travel and lunch. Some employers may also offer bonuses, depending on their – and your – circumstances. If you are claiming Universal Credit or Jobseekers Allowance, you will continue to receive these benefits while on a Traineeship, and your parent or carer can continue to claim Child Benefit while you complete your programme.

 What happens afterwards?

After you complete your Traineeship programme, the plan is to get you straight into a full-time job at the same workplace in which you’ve been training – ideally continuing your training with an Apprenticeship. However we understand things can change and if appropriate we’ll help you find another job or Apprenticeship, or a Full-time Course to develop more knowledge and skills.

Sounds good – how do I apply?
